In an open letter addressed to President Joe Biden, a group of 55 prominent artists and advocates from the entertainment industry has called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and Israel.
Signatories to the letter include well-known figures like Joaquin Phoenix, Cate Blanchett, Jon Stewart, Kristen Stewart, Susan Sarandon, Mahershala Ali, Riz Ahmed, Ramy Youssef, and Quinta Brunson.
The open letter implores the Biden administration and world leaders to prioritize the lives affected in the Holy Land and to facilitate a swift ceasefire. The letter also demands an end to the bombing of Gaza and the safe release of hostages. Last week, another group of artists signed a similar letter.
During his recent visit to Israel, President Biden reaffirmed the United States’ support for Israel and pledged to seek an extraordinary support package for Israel’s defense from the U.S. Congress.
