Israel-Hamas War: Nigeria calls for humanitarian truce

The Nigerian government, on Saturday, called for a durable and sustained humanitarian truce between Israeli forces and Hamas in Gaza.

This follows the resolution adopted by the General Assembly which called for the same. Nigeria and 119 other countries voted in favour of the resolution.

In a statement signed by Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, Nigeria also called for the opening of a humanitarian corridor.

“The situation in Gaza is dire and requires immediate attention as a result of the recent uptick in violence,” the minister said.

It urged warring parties to de-escalate hostilities and return to the negotiating table to continue the search for peaceful resolutions and the implementation of the two-state solution as a permanent settlement of the intergenerational cycle of violence.
