Nigeria calls for humanitarian ceasefire in Israel-Hamas war

The Federal Government of Nigeria reiterated on Saturday its call for an immediate and sustained humanitarian truce between Israeli forces and Hamas in Gaza.

The October 7 attack on Israel by Hamas fighters has killed at least 1,400 people in Israel and prompted retaliation that in turn killed more than 7,000 people in Gaza.

The FG, in a statement signed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Yusuf Tuggar urged parties in the conflict to uphold the fundamental values of human rights and international humanitarian law, which place a premium on ensuring civilians’ safety and well-being even in times of conflict.

According to the statement, Nigeria also called on the Israeli government “to grant humanitarian access to the millions of people that have been displaced since the crisis broke.

“The lack of water, food, medical supplies and fuel shortages have compounded the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza.”
