Canada eases path to permanent residency for skilled workers, lowers CRS score

The Canadian government has recently announced a significant change to its immigration policy, lowering the required Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score for skilled workers seeking permanent residency. In a draw conducted on July 2, 2024, the minimum CRS score was set at 739, offering a more accessible pathway to permanent residency for qualified individuals.

On July 2, 2024, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced the issuance of 920 invitations for permanent residency through the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) under the Express Entry system. This recent draw demonstrates Canada’s ongoing commitment to attracting and retaining skilled workers from around the globe.

With a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 739, this round of invitations aligns with Canada’s goal to foster a diverse and thriving economy. The PNP plays a vital role in facilitating regional economic growth by addressing specific labor market needs across the country.

The IRCC previously held a similar draw on June 19, 2024, issuing 1,499 invitations under the PNP with a lower CRS score requirement of 663. This fluctuation highlights the dynamic nature of the Express Entry system, which aims to provide balanced opportunities for candidates across different CRS score ranges.

To ensure fairness, the tie-breaking rule is applied in cases where multiple candidates possess the same lowest CRS score. As a result, profiles submitted at an earlier date are given priority.

As of July 2, 2024, the Express Entry pool showcases a competitive environment with the highest concentration of candidates in the 451-500 CRS score range. The distribution of candidates across CRS score ranges includes 601-1200 (940 candidates), 501-600 (16,521 candidates), and 451-500 (64,761 candidates), with decreasing numbers for lower score ranges.
