Gov. Otu inaugurates solar power project for rural communities

The Executive Governor of Cross River State, Bassey Edet Otu, has formally launched an innovative solar power initiative aimed at electrifying 10,000 rural households across the state.

This landmark project, undertaken in collaboration with the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), seeks to bridge the energy gap in off-grid areas hindered by challenging terrain.

The initiative aligns with Governor Otu’s “People’s First” agenda, prioritising energy sufficiency and food security as cornerstones of socioeconomic development.

ASOLAR Systems Nigeria Limited has been engaged to supply Solar Home Systems for the project, funded through a 70/30 percent counterpart arrangement between the REA and the state government.

A recent meeting between the Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, and ASOLAR’s Managing Director, Mr. Hakeem Shagaya, finalized plans for the project’s rollout.
