‘If Arsenal don’t win it’s normal’: Pep Guardiola complains about Man City bias in the Premier League

Speaking to the media at the weekend, Pep Guardiola said: “In my first season here when we didn’t win anything it was a disaster! Why? People were reading that Pep couldn’t adapt here with his teams.

“And now, if we win the Premier League we’ve done what we had to do. If we don’t it is a big failure and a big success for the other one. Nothing is going to happen if another team doesn’t win the Premier League.

“What they demand of us, they didn’t demand of our friends — at all. There is only one team that is going to ‘fail’ to win the Premier League, that is us. For the rest, [winning] it is a big success. Any team.

“In the end, if they don’t win — Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, everyone — it is normal because Manchester City should win. It is unfair. It is difficult to handle that every week, every three days, for years and years.”

Man City stayed in fourth place in the Premier League table after beating relegation fodder Luton Town 2–1 away from home on Sunday evening.

Guardiola’s side have been far from perfect so far this season although they always seem to hit their stride in the final months of the campaign.
