The supreme court verdict temporarily restraining the federal government from banning the use of the old naira notes from February 10, dominated the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.
The Punch reports that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank have asked the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to extend the deadline for the phase-out of the old naira notes. The newspaper says the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has appealed the tribunal judgement that overturned the victory of Ademola Adeleke, governor of Osun, in the July 2022 governorship election.
The Nation says the supreme court has granted an interim injunction restraining the CBN from enforcing the February 10 deadline for the old naira notes. The newspaper reports that Hadi Sirika, minister of aviation, said Nigeria Air would soon begin flight operations.
