The Sun on Sunday

The Sun on Sunday leads on the rebellion in Russia being waged by Wagner Group mercenaries describing Vladimir Putin as being “desperate” and “clinging to power”.

The Mail on Sunday

The Mail on Sunday asks if Vladimir Putin bribed Yevgeny Prigozhin to leave the country after the Wagner Group leader stood down his mercenaries while they were on the road to Moscow.

The Sunday Times

The Sunday Times describes Vladimir Putin as being “humiliated” by the mutinying Wagner mercenaries adding that Yevgeny Prigozhin has been exiled to Belarus but avoided charges.

Sunday Mirror

The Sunday Mirror describes Vladimir Putin as being “pushed to the brink” saying Wagner Group mercenaries only halted their march on Moscow “at the 11th hour”.

Sunday People

Unrest in Russia is also the lead story in the Sunday People, which leads with the Shakespeare quote “dogs  of war” as it describes the standoff between Vladimir Puitn’s government and the Wagner Group.

Sunday Express

The Sunday Express describes Russia as being “on the brink of civil war” on its front page saying that President Putin had “fled the capital” as Wagner mercenaries advanced towards Moscow. The main image is of the Princess of Wales playing tennis.

The Sunday Telegraph

The mutinying Wagner Group standing down their “coup attempt” after striking a deal with Vladimir Putin is the lead story in the Sunday Telegraph. 

Daily Star Sunday

The rebellion by the Wagner Group in Russia makes the splash in the Daily Star Sunday, with the paper describing President Vladimir Putin and the mercenary boss Yevgeny Prigozhin as “equally bonkers”.
