The FT says the Swiss banking system is trying to clean up its act after a series of money laundering scandals.

The new rules to try to compel criminals to appear in court for sentencing are the Daily Mail’s front page lead.  

The Daily Telegraph

The Daily Telegraph reports that the number of NHS patients dying while waiting for treatment has doubled in five years, according to the latest figures.

The Sun

The Sun reports that war heroes and ex-military chiefs have blasted Prince Harry’s “offensive” claims the media did nothing to back Britain’s heroes. In his new Netflix series, Harry claims he felt angry that outlets including The Sun ignored British troops wounded in Afghanistan.

Daily Mirror

The Daily Mirror is another newspaper leading with the story on criminals being forced to attend sentencing hearings – which it says follows a Mirror-backed campaign by Cheryl Korbel after her daughter Olivia’s killer snubbed justice. 

Daily Star

The Daily Star reports that a science expert has “gone to war” with rival researchers who have claimed beer goggles don’t make us look more attractive.

Daily Express

The Daily Express leads with the story about criminals being forced to face their victims’ families in court when they are sentenced – with judges being given the power to order them into the dock and authorities able to use “reasonable force” on cowardly criminals who refuse to attend.

The Times

Police will be automatically sacked if they are found guilty of gross misconduct or a criminal offence under measures aimed at purging hundreds of officers who are unfit to serve, The Times reports.

The Guardian

The Guardian writes that witnesses will be forced to give evidence at the inquiry into how Lucy Letby was able to murder seven babies, in a move welcomed by victims’ families.

Chancellor Jeremy Hunt will not cut major taxes in his Autumn Statement, he tells Treasury officials, arguing that high inflation and recession fears make a rapid economic turnaround impossible, the i reports.
