‘Online media killing our businesses’, newspaper vendors lament

Newspaper vendors and sales representatives in Enugu report that online media has severely impacted their business.

Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), they noted a significant decline in hard copy sales, exacerbated by the country’s economic challenges.

Emmanuel Okeke, a 30-year veteran in the business, described the situation as unprecedentedly dire, attributing the decline to readers favoring mobile news. Okeke now relies on real estate to support his family. A sales representative from a leading newspaper said lack of patronage has led to drastic reductions in print orders, with many copies unsold due to both online media and economic hardship.
