Elton John celebrates his 75th birthday today, after being born Reginald Kenneth Dwight back in 1947.
The British music icon will no doubt be having a quiet day with his husband David Furnish, 58, and their two children Zachary, 10, and Elijah, eight.
Elton has made no secret of his wild sex life prior to meeting husband David Furnish.
During his rise to the top Elton was a regular at orgies, though he says his love of voyeurism saved his life
The Rocket Man singer wrote: “I was never actually into f***ing that much.
“I was an observer, a voyeur.
“I’d kind of set up my perversion, have two or three guys doing things for me to watch.”
Elton continued: “That was where my sexual pleasure came from, getting a bunch of people who wouldn’t normally have sex with each other to have sex with each other.
“I didn’t really participle. I just watched, took Polaroids, organised things.”
Injecting dark humour, Elton added: “The only problem was that I was incredibly house proud so they’d end up having sex on the snooker table with me shouting ‘make sure you don’t c** on the baize’ which tended to puncture the atmosphere a bit.
“Not being that interested in having sex myself is the reason I never got HIV. If I had been, I’d would almost certainly be dead.”
Freddie Mercury was ‘almost blind and covered in ulcers’ in his final days
Elton spoke candidly about his heartbreak at losing close friend and music icon Freddie Mercury to the AIDS pandemic.
The singer died in November 1991 when he was just 45 years old.
Elton explained how Freddie’s appearance was shocking as the devastating virus took hold.
He wrote: “He hadn’t told me he was ill.
“I visited him a lot when he was dying, although I could never stay for much longer than an hour.
