Strengthening Academic Learning Through Distance Learning

The Federal College of Education (Technical), Akoka, Lagos, recently matriculated students for the 2020/2021 academic session for the National Certificate in Education (NCE) Distance Learning Programme (DLP), the seventh since the commencement of the off-campus learning mode.  Distance education, also called distance learning, is the education of students who may not always be physically present at a school. 

Traditionally, this usually involved correspondence courses wherein the student corresponds with the school via mail. Today, it usually involves online education. 

According to Wikipedia, a distance learning programme can be completely distance learning, or a combination of distance learning and traditional classroom instruction called hybrid or blended mode), Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), offering large-scale interactive participation and open access through the World Wide Web or other network technologies, are recent educational modes in distance education. 

The Federal College of Education (Technical), Akoka, Lagos in line with the mandate of the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) to improve teachers’ education in Nigeria and the Federal Government’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on access to quality education in all NCE-awarding institutions irrespective of ownership recently admitted 324 from different study centres spread across the length and breadth its catchment areas. 

At the ceremony held at the College main auditorium, the Provost, Dr. Wahab Azeez congratulated the fresh students for scaling through the rigorous admission processes and urged them to make judicious use of resources available at the College to derive the greatest benefits.
