Lebanese driving against traffic knocked down Lagos lady and refused to take responsibility. Now, she’s dead

Omotomi Akinsanya, the woman hit by John Greg, a Lagos-based Lebanese man who was driving against traffic in Victoria Island, Lagos, has died.

Greg hit Omotomi in May and refused to take full financial responsibility after he was allegedly bailed with a sum of N1million while the victim remained in a critical situation, until her death on Thursday, June 9.

Greg was arrested by the police last month after hitting Omotomi with his vehicle, a Toyota 4Runner, along Sanusi Fafunwa Street, Victoria Island.

Before his arrest, Greg had immediately fled the scene, leaving Omotomi with serious injuries to her legs, but he was chased down and overpowered.

A close friend of the family, who asked not to be named, said Omotomi was previously in the Intensive Care Unit at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) before she was moved out, only to be returned there after an amputation surgery.

“We had previously thought everything would be sorted amicably when the Lebanese man was arrested,” she told FIJ.

“However, the case was transferred from Panti to Ikoyi Prison, where he was subsequently released for N1 million.”
