Mr. Anyanwu Israel, The Guardian’s Port Harcourt Zonal Supervisor, Circulation unit, yesterday, narrated how he escaped from suspected kidnappers, who allegedly abducted and swindled him of large sum on his way to Aba, Abia State.

Narrating his ordeal in the hands of a three-man-gang at Ariaria section of Aba, Israel explained that he was on an inspection tour to Aba and Owerri, in Abia and Imo states respectively.
Unfortunately for him, he entered a tricycle that took him to an unknown destination where his money and valuables were taken.

According to him, the incident occurred on Friday, December 3 on his way to monitor sales in Abia and Imo states.

He said: “I left Port Harcourt for Aba and dropped at the popular Ariaria junction and took a tricycle to our office at Liberty area.

“Unknown to me I had boarded a wrong tricycle with others I mistook as passengers.

“They took us into a building and I asked what we were doing in the compound, but before I knew what was happening they locked the gate and threatened to kill me.

“I was so terrified for my life until they pushed me into one room on the upper floor of the two-storey building but I resisted them which resulted in a fight.

“I was overpowered because they were three and they used machetes, bottles to hit me to submission, until I was drenched in my blood.

“They asked me to remove my clothes and seeing that they were brutal, I began to plead for my life. I got a machete blow on my head, when I refused to remove my clothes, as I saw blood sprouting out of my head. I had to undress as they started to film me naked.

“As they recorded me, they asked about how much I had in my account.

“I told them I had one hundred thousand plus in my account. They asked for cash I had on me. I told them I was not too sure of the amount because I stopped over some vendor’s place to take money from them but I had like seventy-six thousand or thereabout. They ransacked my bag, collected all the money and some select clothes.

“They had threatened that after four days if my people do not comply with paying a ransom of 2 million Naira, they will sell my body parts.

“They seized my phone, my ATM card and demanded the pin which I gave to them. They took me down to a Point of Sale (PoS) down the street to remove the remaining money in my account. One had my phone, while the one with my ATM card was withdrawing at about 7 o’clock. I sat down under the watchful eye of the third person.

“They transferred all the money in my account to the point it was just two hundred naira was left. Still, they gave me the phone that I should use the phone to buy a recharge card online for them. As they handed me the phone, I seized the slightest chance and ran for my life.

“They pursued me, I escaped with my phone. They called me the following day threatening me.

“I have made an entry in the police station and swore an affidavit and the police asked me to return the next day.”
