UK weather: Britain to bake in 81F heat on HOTTEST day of 2022 today

Brits flocked to the beach today as temperatures reached 27.5 (81.5F) in parts of the country, making it the hottest day of the year so far.  

Hordes of people headed to Bournemouth beach, as well as the Weymouth and Brighton coastlines. Sunbathers also lapped up the rays in Lancashire.

People were spotted swimming and surfing in Tynemouth beach in the north east, while further south in the capital, Londoners flocked to the city’s parks to soak in the sunshine.

Parts of the country will be warmer than some Greek islands such as Santorini, Crete and Mykonos, and will even top Los Angeles in California by Tuesday afternoon. 

The temperature reached 27.5C (81.5F) at Heathrow this afternoon, the Met Office said, beating the highest recorded so far this year as 23.6C (74.5F) in Faversham, Kent, on May 6. 

The South West of England is also basking in balmy temperatures of 24C (75F) with northern Scotland enjoying a slightly cooler 18C (64F).
