Battle to give Archie Battersbee a 'dignified passing' begins in High Court at 3.30pm

Archie Battersbee’s heartbroken mother ‘woke up sick to the stomach’ today as his family conceded defeat in their fight to keep the schoolboy alive – but they have gone back to court again this morning to try to move him out of hospital to die.

Speaking after the European Court of Human Rights refused an 11th-hour application to keep the 12-year-old on life support, Hollie Dance admitted a ‘dignified passing at a hospice’ was all she had left to fight for.

A shattering week for Archie’s family… as the legal fight goes on

Friday – Hollie Dance and Paul Battersbee apply to the UN after exhausting all their options in the British courts. In response, the UN asks the government to keep Archie’s ventilator switched on until they had considered his case.

Sunday – The government’s legal department write an urgent matter on behalf of Health Secretary Steve Barclay asking the courts to urgently consider the committee’s request.

Monday – The Court of Appeal refuse to postpone the withdrawal…
