FG urged to investigate bank MDs for alleged involvement in Emefiele’s wrongdoings

Timi Frank, a political activist and former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has called for the invitation and questioning of the Managing Directors of Access Bank and Guaranteed Trust Bank (GTB). This comes in light of the arrest and ongoing probe of the former Governor of the Central Bank, Godwin Emefiele.

Frank, in a statement made available to The Guardian on Friday, stated that there are allegations suggesting that the two bank leaders were accomplices in aiding acts of subversion and misappropriation of public funds. He believes it is necessary for the UK government to cooperate with Nigerian security agencies and invite the bank executives for questioning.

Frank claimed that invitations for the probe had been sent to the managing directors and expressed concerns that there might be attempts to undermine the invitation by seeking refuge in the UK.

He emphasized that the MD of GTB had shown reluctance to return to Nigeria for cross-examination by the Department of State Service (DSS), despite being scheduled for questioning on July 3rd.

Frank also alleged that four other managing directors of tier one banks were implicated as accomplices and conduits for Emefiele, with the Access and GTB MDs playing significant roles in defrauding the nation.

He called on the UK government to prevent any extended stay in the country for these individuals and urged them not to provide refuge for corrupt officials.
