Twitter gives back blue tick to famous accounts with over a million followers

Elon Musk has handed back blue ticks to some Twitter accounts with more than one million followers – without them paying for it.

Beyoncé, Harry Kane, Richard Osman and Victoria Beckham are among the celebrities and sports stars to have been given their swoosh back today.

The blue tick was previously a badge of verification given for free by Twitter, but now after the billionaire has introduced Twitter Blue things have changed.

There has been outrage online over the introduction of paying for a Blue Tick.

It was originally used as a tool of authentication, designed to help stop fake accounts and the spread of misinformation, but now it is a clear money-making scheme.

Now the tick is a symbol that an account has subscribed to the premium service – and there is a verification process attached to making the payment.

There are various prices depending on where the subscription is made but it is around $8 per month.

The initial rollout of a paid blue tick verification scheme had to be paused due to a huge number of impersonators…
