Fauci admits COVID mandates not based in science: Congressman

THE MESSENGER

America’s former COVID-19 czar, Anthony Fauci, M.D., admitted during a congressional hearing that mandates enforced by leaders to prevent spread of the virus may not have been based in science.

Dr. Fauci was interviewed by the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic for around 14 hours over two days this week. As part of the committee’s investigation, the congress members they asked the former National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) about controversial mandates that went into effect at the start of the pandemic.

Congressman Brad Wenstrup (R-OH), the committee’s chair, says that Dr. Fauci was asked about mandates that he and other federal officials promoted, and that he did not have an explanation for them.

“The social distancing recommendations forced on Americans ‘sort of just appeared’ and were likely not based on scientific data,” Wenstrup, who is also a doctor, said of Dr. Fauci’s testimony in a statement Wednesday.

The social distancing advice from early in the pandemic was under scrutiny. Early in the pandemic, Americans were told to stay at least six feet away from one-another to avoid spreading the virus. However, research quickly found that just three feet of distance was effective to stop spreading the virus. Furthermore, researchers discovered that COVID had trouble spreading outdoors, thereby invalidating the distancing guidance.

“Dr. Fauci’s transcribed interview revealed systemic failures in our public health system and shed light on serious procedural concerns with our public health authority,” Wenstrup continued. “It is clear that dissenting opinions were often not considered or suppressed completely. Should a future pandemic arise, America’s response must be guided by scientific facts and conclusive data.”

Dr. Fauci was also questioned on vaccine mandates at U.S. colleges and universities in 2021 and 2022. At many schools, students had to prove they were vaccinated to return to campus. Dr. Fauci reportedly supported these mandates and pushed colleges to put them in place.

The former NIAID director was particularly grilled for one line: “when you make it difficult for people in their lives, they lose their ideological bullshit, and they get vaccinated…
