How China could take Taiwan without even needing to invade

According to a new report by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), China has a third possible approach to potentially seize control of Taiwan, in addition to invasion or blockade: a “quarantine” strategy.

This approach would involve China’s coast guard, maritime militia, and various police and maritime safety agencies initiating a partial or full quarantine of Taiwan, possibly limiting access to its ports and disrupting the supply of vital goods like energy. The report warns that such “gray zone” tactics could make it more difficult for the US and other democracies to respond.
