Tinubu govt budgets N800m under News Agency of Nigeria to provide tricycles, boreholes in Abia, Rivers, streetlights in Oyo

The President Bola Tinubu’s administration budgeted N800million under the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in the 2024 Fiscal Appropriation Act, for purchase and distribution of tricycles, popularly known as Keke Napep in Abia State, rural electrification, provision of boreholes and ICT equipment in Rivers State, renovation of schools in Bayelsa state, and provision of street lights in Oyo State.

The NAN is a news reporting agency owned and run by the Nigerian government, which has the mandate to disseminate news easily across the country and to the international community.

Under the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation as a means to counter negative stories about Nigeria, NAN provides General News Service to subscribers in three bulletins published daily.

However, according to the breakdown and details of the budget allocation from the certified copy obtained from the Budget Office website by SaharaReporters, Tinubu’s government under News Agency of Nigeria budgeted the sum of N100 million for “Purchase and distribution of tricycles for empowerment of youths in Ukwa East/West Federal Constituency of Abia State.”

Also, the sum of N350 million was budgeted for “Electrification projects in Port Harcourt Federal Constituency 1, Rivers State”; “Construction ofvICT Hall in Okrika, Okrika/Ogu-Bolo Federal Constituency, Rivers State” and “Solar panel borehole in Owuogono town in Ogu-Bolo Local Government Area, Okrika/Ogu-Bolo Federal Constituency, Rivers State”, respectively under NAN.

Another N200 million was budgeted under NAN for “Provision for supply of ICT equipment to Okrika, Okrika/Ogu-Bolo Federal Constituency, Rivers State” and “Provision of all-in-one solar street lights for communities in Ikwere local government area, Rivers State”, respectively.

Tinubu’s government also budgeted the sum of N100 million for “Renovation of selected schools in selected areas of Southern Ijaw Federal Constituency, Bayelsa State” and another N50 million for “Provision of power solar boreholes in selected communities in Ogo-Oluwa/Surulere Federal Constituency, Oyo State”, under the News Agency of Nigeria.
