Multiple Nigerian States declare public holiday in honor of Teachers’ Day

Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State has approved Monday, October 7, 2024, as a public holiday for teachers in the state.

The gesture, according to a statement by the state Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Sa’adatu Moddibo Kawu, is in honor of World Teachers’ Day (WTD).

The governor commended the teachers for their role in advancing human progress through quality teaching and the nurturing of minds.

“The governor directs that this holiday be enjoyed by teachers in the public and private sectors as a mark of appreciation for what they do,” the statement said.

“He wishes them a blessed holiday,” it added.

Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has declared Monday, October 7, 2024, as a work-free day for teachers in the state.

This is in commemoration of this year’s Teachers’ Day in the state.

Hence, schools within the state are expected to resume academic activities on Tuesday, October 8, 2024.

Abiodun made this disclosure on Saturday during the celebration held at the Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta, the state capital.

– The Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, also declared Monday a work-free day for teachers in public and private schools in the state to commemorate the 2024 World Teachers’ Day.

In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr Kolapo Alimi, on Sunday, the gesture was to recognise the invaluable contributions of teachers to the growth of the education sector.
