Peter Obi, Bala Mohammed visit Wike amid defection rumour

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi on Wednesday visited the Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, in Port Harcourt.

 The closed door meeting they had lasted for a few hours at the governor’s private residence in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

Though the outcome of the meeting was not made known to the media, the two politicians were seen in a photograph shaking hands in front of Governor Wike’s residence.

 Obi’s visit is coming amid speculations that Wike may dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), due to the fallout of the presidential primary of the party and the failure of the party’s presidential standard bearer, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, to pick him as his running mate for the 2023 general elections.

 It would be recalled that Atiku had set up a reconciliation committee to reach out to Wike to pacify him and to solicit his support for the party to wrestle power from the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the centre.
