Obasanjo’s decision had generated reactions from many Nigerians, including the presidential candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, and that of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Obasanjo, while speaking on Thursday, insisted that he did not use the word “endorsed,” adding that he only gave his opinion about his preferred presidential candidate.
He said that, “Whether the letter is open or not open, what I believe is that I will be punished by God if I fail to do what is right.
“In my statement, I said that one particular candidate has an edge over other candidates.
“I considered the man’s character, track record, vision and other qualities before making my decision.
“Ater I had finished my observations, I gave my opinion to Nigerians because I see this man as a child of God,” he added.
