PDP NEC meeting: We’ll lead party’s funeral – Ex-Minister, Chidoka warns of impending disaster

As the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gears up for its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for Thursday, former Minister of Aviation Osita Chidoka has issued a stern warning, emphasizing the critical nature of the decisions to be made.

Chidoka, in a statement released on Wednesday night, directed his message to PDP governors and the National Assembly Caucus, cautioning against any actions that could undermine the party’s constitution. He emphasized that any deviation from the party’s guiding principles could spell disaster, potentially jeopardizing the party’s future.

The upcoming NEC meeting is poised to tackle various pressing issues, notably the fate of the current acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum. Damagum assumed the role of acting National Chairman following the indefinite suspension of Iyorchia Ayu by a court in Benue State back in March 2023.

The controversy surrounding Damagum’s position has divided the party, with some advocating for a member from the North Central to complete Ayu’s tenure in accordance with the party’s constitution. Conversely, others have thrown their support behind Damagum as the preferred candidate for the substantive chairman role.

According to Chidoka, “if at the NEC meeting, the Party fails to uphold the constitutionality and respect for the rules of the party, then I and other progressive members will not hesitate to lead the pallbearers to the funeral of the party as we know it.

“The party must put an end to its submission to filthy lucre and macabre dancing to the music of unprincipled pipers.
