A politically-charged dispute has shaken the foundations of Rivers State’s local government system. The National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), led by Clifford Paul, has declared its intention to protest the police barricade on the 23 local government council secretariats in the state.
Meanwhile, the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), led by embattled Chairman Allwell Ihunda, has accused NULGE of siding with Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who has appointed NULGE members as part of caretaker committees in defiance of a court order.
