What started out as a conspiracy theory a few months ago has become a reality. In April, we ran a story asking if you are ready for a COVID monitoring microchip to be implanted under your skin. Back then, the Pentagon’s Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) revealed it has developed an implantable microchip that the agency said would continuously monitor the human body for signs of the virus.
Fast forward eight months later, the implantable covid microchip is finally here. But not from DARPA. Instead, the covid passport microchip was developed by a Stockholm-based Swedish tech startup called DSruptive. Unlike DARPA’s implantable microchip that continuously monitors your body for signs of the virus, the rice-sized microchip can easily be inserted under the skin so that users can carry their covid passports in their arms. The microchip also stores all the patient covid-19 vaccine data.
In a viral video circulating around the internet, DSruptive managing director Hannes Sjöblad, who also wears the chip in his arm, said: “Right now it’s very convenient to have a COVID passport always accessible on your implant.”
It all started at the beginning of December when Sweden enacted new rules requiring individuals to have a passport at all events with more than 100 people. In a report by France24, “Following that announcement, the number of people who got microchips inserted under their skin rose: around 6,000 people in Sweden have so far had a chip inserted in their hands.”

Commenting on the microchip, Michael Waller, a Senior Analyst for Strategy, Center for Security Policy. and Founding editorial board member of NATO Defence Strategic Communications journal said in a tweet:

Meanwhile, Chinese state-linked media South China Morning Post has expressed deep interest in the microchip calling it a “positive” technology.

Before developing the covid passport microchip, Hannes Sjöblad is a biohacker who has been experimenting with near field communication (NFC) chip implants since 2015.
During a speech talk at Echappée Voléé 2016 in Paris, Sjöblad disclosed that he implanted himself with a chip between his forefinger and thumb and uses it to unlock doors, make payments, unlock his phone. The NFC chip essentially replaces anything that is put in one’s pockets.
