North Korea’s latest 'more advanced' ballistic missile travelled 10 times speed of sound

North Korea’s latest missile has been clocked in at travelling at 10 times the speed of sound – in a terrifying update from military sources.

According to the South Korean military, the ballistic missile, which was fired on Tuesday, flew more than 435 miles (700km) at a maximum altitude of 37 miles (60km) and a top speed of Mach 10.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said the North fired the missile from its northern province of Jagang into the East Sea and it took note of an “improvement” compared to the hypersonic missile that was launched on Wednesday.

The JCS said: “We assess that it has improved compared with the ballistic missile launched on January 5.”

It went on to refer to its neighbour’s continued launches of ballistic missiles as a “clear” violation of U.N. Security Council resolutions, which prohibit the North from conducting any launches using ballistic missile technology, Yonhap News Agency reports.

The South Korean military also urged the communist country to immediately halt its missile launches.
