Below are 10 things you should know about Ike Ekweremadu.
1. Ike Ekeremadu was born on 12 May 1962, at Amachara Mpu in the Aninri Local Government Area of Enugu State.
2. Ekweremmadu has served in the Senate since June 2003 and is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
3. In 2005, Ike Ekweremadu was beaten in the race for President of the Senate by Senator Kenechukwu Nnamani.
4. He was the Deputy President of the Senate for three (3) consecutive times (6th, 7th, and 8th).
5. He holds both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in law from the University of Nigeria and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1987.
6. In September 2003, he was appointed as Vice Chairman of the senate committee on Information.
7. In September 2009, he was appointed to lead the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
8. On 17 August 2019, while attending the Second Annual Cultural Festival and Convention organized by Ndi-Igbo Germany in Nuremberg, Ekweremadu was attacked by suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra IPOB.
