Report: Qatar 2022 World Cup to change its start date

Marca

The Qatar 2022 World Cup is just over three months away and as ever the calendar changes continue after one of the most chaotic qualifiers process of all times, however, this time the change would be in the opening match, this would mean that the start date of this great event would also be affected.

According to a report from Argentina’s Diario Olé, FIFA is seriously considering moving the opening of the World Cup, which is currently scheduled for Monday, November 21, forward one day and moving it to Sunday, November 20, moving the match between Qatar and Ecuador to that day.

Why would Qatar vs. Ecuador be rescheduled?

The reason for this change has to do with the confusing fact of having a couple of games played before the inauguration, which as has become a tradition since Germany 2006 is played by the host team.

Currently, before Qatar vs Ecuador (11 am ET), the Netherlands vs Senegal (5 am ET) and England vs Iran (8 am ET) are scheduled.

The proposal is that Qatar vs Ecuador will now take place on November 20 at 2 pm ET and that the Netherlands vs Senegal game will take place on November 21 at 11 am ET, maintaining the start time of England vs Iran and ending, as is currently the case, that matchday with the United States vs Wales game at 2 pm ET.

Who approves the World Cup schedule changes?

According to Diario Olé, for this change…
