Former Chelsea striker Timo Werner opened his fresh RB Leipzig account with a debut goal for the Bundesliga side.
The German attacker, who re-signed for the club for £25.3m (€30m) plus bonuses on a four-year deal, took just over half an hour to get off the mark back in his home nation.
Facing off against Koln, the forward took a shot from long-range, deceiving the goalkeeper and going under his arms.
Fans were quick to joke about the fact took such a short time to get off the mark. One wrote: “Chelsea has always been the problem for their poor form of strikers.” Another posted: “Very happy for Timo, but where in the world was this at Chelsea. The guy couldn’t hit the net from five feet away.” A third said: “Chelsea excuses: Lucky goal (it isn’t) Look at the goalkeeper (what? He is just unlucky that was a good shoot just the goalkeeper did a small mistake) Bundesliga is easy, (Bundesliga isn’t easy) I could score that too (you can’t).”
A last one said: “It’s good to see that he has found his goal scoring touch again. Seems he didn’t lose confidence at all, considering the audacity to try and shoot from such a distance.”
Werner joined Chelsea in 2020 after they activated his £47.5 million release clause, penning a five-year contract.
But the 26-year-old struggled for form and failed to truly make his mark with the Premier League side. Over the course of 89 games, he could only find the back of the net 23 times – in fact he only found the back of the net ten times in the league…
