Ferdinand explains why he thinks Ten Hag joined Man Utd under 'false pretences'

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has admitted he feels sorry for Erik ten Hag and believes the Dutchman has joined the club under “false pretences”.

He made the comments after United were embarrassed in their Premier League outing against Brentford on Saturday evening, losing 4-0 to a side who looked at one point as though they could have been relegated from the top flight last season.

Ten Hag’s side fell behind early on as Josh Dasilva’s shot somehow squirmed in under the body of David de Gea, before goals from Mathias Jensen, Ben Mee and Bryan Mbuemo put the Bees 4-0 up before half-time.

The result truly killed any momentum United had managed to build after a promising pre-season, with the Reds playing some attractive football at times during their tour of Thailand and Australia. However, two losses from as many games have left United bottom of the Premier League table.

And Ferdinand has admitted he feels sorry for Ten Hag, insinuating that the three signings brought in so far are not enough to achieve success this season…
