Xavi appears to have lost his patience over Frenkie de Jong’s Manchester United transfer links after launching a “several times” rant.

The Barcelona manager was questioned on De Jong’s future following the club’s opening match of the season on Saturday night, a goalless draw at home to Rayo Vallecano. De Jong was named on the bench for the match but came on during the second half to play the final half an hour at the Nou Camp.

Following the match, Xavi was asked why he started De Jong on the bench, explaining, via the Metro: “Frenkie de Jong is not a reserve player, I’ve said that several times. He’s an important player for us.

“I don’t know what will happen, but if Frenkie stays he will be important to us. Just look at the situation he played in today.”

He was also questioned on the futures of De Jong and Piere-Emerick Aubameyang, with both players strongly linked with moves before the end of the transfer window…
