Memphis Depay is now on the verge of leaving Barcelona as the Dutchman and the La Liga giants have reached an agreement over the termination of his contract, claims Fabrizio Romano.

The Netherlands international joined the Blaugrana only a year ago and enjoyed a steady debut season, finishing as the club’s joint-top scorer with 13 goals to his name.

However, the signings of Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha coupled with the return from injury of Ansu Fati meant that Depay had fallen well down the pecking order at Camp Nou and was told to find a new club for himself if he wished to play regularly.

Initially, Barça demanded a sum of €20 million for the Netherlands international. However, the forward had always been firm on his stance that if he were to leave the club this summer, it would only be as a free agent.

Having entered the final year of his contract at Camp Nou, Depay believed that he was owed the chance to leave on a free transfer as he had turned down bigger, more lucrative contracts to join Barcelona last summer…
