Fernandez seeks reconciliation with French teammates after racism controversy

Enzo Fernandez has returned to Chelsea for preseason training amid reports that he is working to make amends with his French teammates following a controversy involving racist chants. The Argentine midfielder faced widespread criticism after he and his Argentina teammates were seen live-streaming a chant with derogatory references to the black players of the French national team during their Copa America celebrations.

The chant, which mocked the African heritage of several French players, emerged after Argentina’s 1-0 victory over Colombia in the Copa America final. Chelsea’s Wesley Fofana publicly condemned Fernandez’s actions on social media, and the club announced an investigation into the incident.

Fernandez has since issued a public apology and has been actively reaching out to his Chelsea teammates. He reported for preseason training in Atlanta on Monday, where he apologized in person.
