Arsenal hand €20 million-a-year deal to 24-year-old utility man

Arsenal have reportedly made Kai Havertz their top earner after signing the German international from Chelsea last week.

VIA HARD TACKLE:

According to Bild, Kai Havertz will reportedly earn a mouthwatering €20 million-a-year deal at Arsenal. The 24-year-old’s ‘utility man’ status may not prove accurate, as the Gunners are paying top dollar for the former Chelsea star, who could become a key part of their attack.

Kai Havertz was a key player for Chelsea and accumulated the most minutes among any other outfield player. His constant presence on the pitch could not prevent a catastrophic season for the Blues, who ended the campaign in 12th place.

For starters, Arsenal registering their interest in the 24-year-old star seemed strange at the beginning. Then as talks accelerated, it became clear Mikel Arteta wanted him at all costs. The Gunners paid nearly €60 million excluding bonuses for the German international, who seemed happy to make the move across London.

Where Havertz fits tactically was a question debated Where Havertz fits tactically was a question debated among the Arsenal fan base to great lengths over the course of the last two weeks. Some feel he is a midfield replacement for Granit Xhaka, while others feel he could compete for one of the attacking spots.

A report from Bild insisted that Arsenal signed Havertz on a €20 million-a-year deal, which sounds expensive for a ‘utility man’. The salary package seems in line with what he was earning at Chelsea but also makes him the highest-paid star in the Emirates.

He could earn even more if bonuses came into account, but even €20 million-a-year seems expensive for the Gunners. The news will draw plenty of criticism from the North London fanbase, who still do not rate Havertz completely. They still want to see why Arteta was so keen to sign him, but many feel he will come good for Arsenal.

The report also insists Declan Rice could get a similarly lucrative deal once he completes his move from West Ham. The Gunners recently agreed on a club-record deal with their London counterparts for the England international.
