NFF debunks plan to replace Eagles’ coach, Peseiro, with Finidi, Amuneke

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has refutted reports that it has decided to appoint current Super Eagles’ assistant coach and Enyimba FC of Aba handler, Finidi George and Emmanuel Amuneke as replacements for Jose Peseiro, whose one-year contract will soon expire.

The NFF was, last week, reported to have thrown the choice of senior national team coach open for Nigerians to decide through a poll. But the federation later came out to deny the story.

Speaking with The Guardian, yesterday, NFF’s Technical Director, Austin Eguavoen, said the Federation has not decided whether to renew Peseiro’s contract or not, adding that the body will inform the public of its stance on the job in due course.

“I don’t have anything to say on Coach Peseiro’s contract. When the reliable authorities decide on the contract, the news will be out to the public through the secretary of the NFF. But, as at this moment, there is nothing like Finidi or Amuneke issue on the Eagles’ job to my level of information.

“I am just getting back to Abuja after attending a programme. On my part, I feel Peseiro just qualified for the 2024 AFCON and he has a game left. Discussions on his contract when it expires should be after the last AFCON qualifier game,” he said…
