Former Spanish Football Federation chief Luis Rubiales has stuck his luxury Madrid apartment on the market amidst the controversy surrounding the kiss-gate scandal.

The 46-year-old resigned from his post last Sunday as RFEF president, three weeks on from Spain winning the Women’s World Cup final and his controversial kiss with Jenni Hermoso. After growing pressure to step down, Rubiales confirmed the news in an interview with Piers Morgan.

Now, a week later, Rubiales has been forced to sell his £1.2million Spanish mansion as he faces mounting legal bills and an increase in financial support to his ex-wife and kids, according to The Sun. Rubiales split with his wife in 2013 and reportedly has to pay €800 per-month for each of his three daughters.

Rubiales bought the completely renovated luxury property for £1.1m, but could make a small profit, as per La Vanguardia. The flat boasts two floors with two bedrooms and a private pool with access to shared gardens, a cinema, a gym and a community pool.

It was revealed earlier this month that Hermoso had filed a legal complaint against him over the kiss following Spain’s 1-0 win over England. Prosecutors gave Hermoso 15 days to formally accuse Rubiales of sexual assault and she has since lodged the complaint in person at the Spanish State Prosecution Service HQ in Madrid.

At the time the Talk TV interview with Morgan went public, Rubiales tweeted: “Good night. Today I transmitted at 9:30 p.m. to the acting President, Mr. Pedro Rocha, my resignation from the position of President of the RFEF.

“I have also informed you that I have done the same with my position at UEFA so that my position in the Vice Presidency can be replaced. After the quick suspension carried out by FIFA, plus the rest of open proceedings against me, it is evident that I will be able to return to my position.
