Twitter has unveiled yet another new feature in an effort to promote Twitter Blue, its paid subscription service.

All open DMs have had their settings modified by Twitter to prevent non-Twitter Blue subscribers from texting them.

On Friday, Twitter started rolling out a new setting for the platform’s direct messaging. Users of Twitter previously had two choices.

They could enable messages from any user on the network or just those from persons they follow.

The DM button would only be visible for users who were being followed if the latter option was selected.

However, users can now choose to only receive direct messages from verified Twitter users and the persons they follow.

“Starting as soon as July 14th, we’re adding a new messages setting that should help reduce the number of spam messages in DMs,” Twitter said in its official @TwitterSupport account.
