FG dismisses claims of ‘dirty fuel’ importation into Nigeria, faults Dangote

The Federal Government of Nigeria denies allegations of importing “dirty fuel” (high-sulphur content) into the country, contradicting claims by Dangote Petroleum Refinery.

The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) met with oil marketers and local refiners to discuss pricing, competition, and importation of locally produced products.

NMDPRA ensures imported products comply with ECOWAS standards (50ppm sulphur), while local refiners have until December 31, 2024, to comply; marketers are free to source products from anywhere but are also patronizing local refiners.

The government guarantees a level playing field and continues to engage with operators for the industry’s best interest, addressing concerns about dirty fuel importation and ensuring energy security and fuel supply stability.
