Democrats more excited to vote than Republicans in crucial swing state

Democrats in Pennsylvania are more enthusiastic about voting in the November election than Republicans, according to new polling data.

Democrats living in the key swing state, which carries 19 Electoral College votes, are almost ten points more enthusiastic about voting in the election than Pennsylvania Republicans according to a survey from InsiderAdvantage.

When asked: “How enthusiastic are you about voting in November?,” 86.3 percent of Democrats said that they were enthusiastic, while 77 percent of Republicans said the same.

A further 11.8 percent of Democrats and 19.6 percent of Republicans said they were planning on voting but were not enthusiastic about the prospect.

The findings match a resurgence in energy for the Democratic campaign after Vice President Kamala Harris became the presumptive nominee over President Joe Biden, with data from other key swing states indicating that the switch to a more youthful candidate has energized Democratic voters.

Newsweek contacted the Trump and Harris campaigns for comment on these findings.

Independents were the least enthusiastic out of any voting group, with 66 percent saying they were excited about voting, and a further 32 percent saying they were planning on voting, but not enthusiastic about it.

The same poll found that 37.7 percent of independents were planning on voting for Harris, while 47.8 percent were planning on voting for Trump. A further 6.5 percent said they were planning to vote for a third-party candidate.

Pennsylvania remains one of the most important swing states this election. In 2020, it was the state that took Biden over the 270 line in the Electoral College, and cemented his victory against former President Donald Trump.

In 2016, Pennsylvania was part of Trump’s upset in the Midwest, where he also took Michigan and Wisconsin to beat former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Recreating his 2016 coalition has been highlighted as a major part of Trump’s plan to win in 2024, seen in his selection of Ohio Senator JD Vance as his running mate.

To add to the hype for Democrats, the nearby state of Illinois is currently hosting the Democratic National Convention, which has so far seen speeches from top Democratic politicians, including Biden and New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Hillary Clinton also spoke on the first day, with many commentators suggesting that Harris was “picking up the torch” of potentially becoming the first female president in U.S. history.
