President Joe Biden has publicly claimed credit for the newly brokered ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, bringing an end to a brutal 15-month conflict in Gaza. Speaking to reporters at the White House, Biden praised his administration’s diplomatic efforts, saying, “My diplomacy never ceased in their efforts to get this done.”
The President highlighted the continuous engagement of U.S. officials with key regional players, including Egypt and Qatar, which were instrumental in mediating the truce. Biden also expressed gratitude for the cooperation of international allies who contributed to facilitating dialogue between the warring sides.
The ceasefire marks a temporary halt in the violence that has claimed thousands of lives, primarily among Palestinian civilians, and left vast parts of Gaza in ruins. While Biden framed the agreement as a testament to his administration’s foreign policy strategy, he acknowledged the need for sustained efforts toward a long-term peace solution. “This ceasefire is a critical first step, but there is still much work to be done,” he said.
