The Nigeria Police Force Zone 2 Command has arrested a woman and her accomplice for allegedly trafficking young girls to Mauritania as commercial sex workers for N50,000 per victim. The suspects were apprehended in the Meiran area of Lagos State on March 22 after an intelligence operation led by the Zonal Intelligence Response Squad. According to the Zonal Public Relations Officer, Umma Ayuba, the arrested woman admitted to working with a Mauritania-based trafficker and revealed that among her victims was her own 19-year-old daughter. She also confessed to receiving over N500,000 from the trafficking scheme.
The second suspect, initially involved in recruiting girls for domestic work, became suspicious after one of her recruits was rejected. Upon further questioning, she realized the victims were being trafficked for sex work and withdrew from the operation. The police confirmed that the suspects will be charged in court after investigations are completed. This case follows a similar incident reported in Ogun State, where a 28-year-old woman was arrested for trafficking three girls to Libya. Authorities continue to warn against human trafficking and urge the public to report suspicious activities.
