Space agency’s are beginning to recognise the importance of private funding, the chief executive of Seraphim Space, a venture fund for space tech startups, has said.

Speaking to Sky News, Mark Boggett said this is “third time lucky for Japan” as they had already had two previous attempts of landing on the moon.

“Space has opened up to private investors in recent years as the cost of accessing space has tumbled,” he said.

He went on to say there was “so much opportunity offered by space” and “there was a wealth of materials available in space”.

Asked if there was now a recognition from space agency’s that they needed private funding, he added: “By bringing private investors in it reduces the burden for government agency’s.
