North Korea’s attempts to hand Russian President Vladimir Putin more weapons appears to have been exposed by new satellite images

Leader Kim Jong-un and Putin have long been considered close pals, with the pair meeting up to compare guns last year. And while there, they agreed to a trade deal based purely around weapons – which now seems to have come into force.

According to new images seen by The Guardian and given to the United Nations with a view to triggering an investigation into the illegal arms deal, several ships can be seen docked in a port in North Korea. Of those, three Russian ones are seen being loaded with what appears to be massive shipments of weapons.

Although the contents can’t been seen from the images contained within a UK Ministry of Defence document, the images clearly show Russian vessels. A source told The Sun: “Russia has likely begun shipping North Korean munitions at scale”.

A UN diplomat told the Guardian: ”Russia’s use of North Korean weapons in Ukraine is a violation of multiple UN security council resolutions.

“It undermines international efforts to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons and exposes just how desperate Russia has become in its failed invasion. This and other evidence submitted to the UN sanctions committee should trigger a full investigation into Russia and DPRK’s [North Korea’s] flagrant breaking of international sanctions.”
