A staunch Putin-supporting mayor has told the men of the southern Russian city he reigns over to “sneak up” on woman and make them pregnant in the name of patriotism.
Mikhail Minenkov explained his advice was his solution to the despot’s demand for larger families to stem a diabolical drop in Russia‘s population exasperated by his invasion of Ukraine. In his “appeal to men”, the 46-year-old reservist colonel told Nevinnomyssk, a city of 117,500 people in the Stavropol region to “sneak up” on women.
He said: “Sneak up on your beloved tonight and in exactly nine months, say, at the end of 2024, give birth not to 700 people, but to 10,000.” He added: “10,000 families, couples have to do something tonight, tomorrow night. Fall in love.
“The remaining 10,000 do it next year. So we will have, dear friends, not 3,020 children in our city’s kindergartens, but many more.
“It may sound naïve or ridiculous…but it has to be pushed, moved, persuaded…”
