14-day ultimatum: ASUU threatens strike in 20 universities, gives reasons
The Academic Staff Union of Universities has issued a 14-day ultimatum to federal and state governments, warning that lecturers in 20 universities will commence strike action if outstanding issues from the 2025 FGN-ASUU Agreement remain unresolved, ASUU President Prof. Christopher Piwuna announced on Monday following a National Executive Council meeting held at the University of Abuja on August 8 and 9.
Vanguard reports that ASUU condemned what it described as the “haphazard implementation” and “lackadaisical attitude” of the Federal Government toward releasing subventions required to fully implement the December 2025 agreement — signed after over 16 years of negotiations — warning that an emergency NEC meeting would be convened in late August or early September to take further decisions.
