2025 budget: Reps extend capital implementation deadline to December

The House of Representatives has extended implementation of the capital component of Nigeria’s 2025 Appropriation Act from September 30 to December 31, 2026.

According to Nigerian Tribune, the House approved the executive bill on Tuesday after considering the Appropriation Act at the Committee of Supply chaired by Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu.

Majority Leader Julius Ihonvbere, who led debate on the motion, said economic challenges had made it difficult to complete implementation of capital projects before the deadline.

He said the extension became necessary “due to several factors and forces impinging on the Nigerian economy.”

“And as a responsible parliament to ensure that non-implementation will not be blamed on the expiration of our own determination, we have decided to move and let it be moved that this be extended to the 31st of December, 2026.”

Following passage of the bill, the House adjourned plenary until Tuesday, October 13, 2026, after completing legislative proceedings for the day.
