Labour Party (LP) National Chairman, Julius Abure, has criticized the party’s federal lawmakers for not making any financial contributions since their election in 2023. Speaking at a town hall meeting organized by the Lagos chapter of the party, Abure revealed that despite having six senators, about 30 House of Representatives members, and numerous state assembly members, none have contributed financially to the party’s operations. He emphasized that in other political parties, elected officials help fund party activities, but in LP’s case, the burden remains solely on the leadership.
Abure also warned against the formation of parallel structures within the party, stating that a party cannot function effectively with conflicting leadership. He accused some lawmakers of wanting control over their local constituencies without actively supporting the party’s growth. Calling for unity, he urged members of the ‘Obidient’ movement to formally register with the party to strengthen its structure and operations.
