Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has distanced himself from the recent visit of Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to the state. In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, the governor clarified that Obi’s visit was strictly private and had no connection to the state government.

“The Governor was neither informed nor involved in the planning or execution of Mr. Obi’s visit,” the statement read. It further noted that the visit should not be misconstrued as an endorsement or political alliance between the two leaders.

Peter Obi had visited some IDP camps and met with community leaders during his time in Benue, a move that sparked political speculation. Alia’s clarification comes amid heightened political sensitivities ahead of the next election cycle.
